Terms of use

The terms covering this website and the newsletter sent from it.

TODO(policy)

This document is a structural draft. It is not in force, it has no effective date, and nothing in it is a commitment by TechRoom360 until the policy pass is finished. Each section below states only what the site actually does today; everything still to be decided is marked.

What this covers

This website, and the email newsletter sent from it. Nothing here governs what a third party does on their own site, including any site an issue links out to.

TODO(policy)

  • Identify who these terms are between. A named person, a registered company, or neither yet — nothing in this repository establishes it, and almost every section below depends on the answer.

Using the site

The site is free to read. There is no account to create, nothing to log into and nothing to buy, so the newsletter is the only thing on it you can sign up for.

TODO(policy)

  • Decide the acceptable-use position: bulk or automated access, scraping, and wholesale republication. None of it is decided, and the answer interacts with the copyright section below.

The writing, and what you may do with it

TODO(policy)

  • Decide who owns the writing and what a reader may do with it — quote with attribution, translate, republish in full, use it as training data. Saying nothing is itself a position, and probably not the intended one.
  • Decide the position on the RSS feed, which by design republishes every issue's standfirst off-site.
  • Decide how third-party material inside an issue is handled — quotations, screenshots, figures reproduced from a paper.

The newsletter

Subscribing is free and is confirmed by email: one message asks you to confirm, and nothing else is sent unless you do. Every issue carries a way to unsubscribe.

TODO(policy)

  • Say whether any sending frequency is committed to. There is none today, and the newsletter page deliberately promises none — so this section must not accidentally introduce one.
  • Say what happens if the newsletter stops: whether the archive stays online, and for how long.

Availability and accuracy

TODO(policy)

  • Write the availability and accuracy position, and have someone qualified read it.
  • Reconcile it with the corrections commitment already published on the about page. A blanket disclaimer of accuracy sitting alongside a promise to correct errors in place reads as a contradiction, and a reader will notice.

Issues link out constantly — that is what sourcing means. Those sites are not ours, and linking to one is not an endorsement of everything on it.

TODO(policy)

  • Decide whether anything beyond that needs saying.

Accounts, membership and payment

None of these exist. There is no account system, nothing on this site is behind a paywall, and no payment is taken anywhere on it.

TODO(policy)

  • This section is only needed if that changes. If paid access ever launches, its terms belong here or on their own page — and note that the architecture requires an existing issue to keep the same URL either way, so this is a terms question, not a URL one.

Changes to these terms

TODO(policy)

  • Decide how a change is announced and whether continuing to read the site counts as accepting it.
  • Set the effective date. This draft deliberately has none.

Governing law

TODO(policy)

  • Decide the governing law and which courts have jurisdiction. This cannot be settled before the entity in “What this covers” is.

Contact

TODO(policy)

  • Publish an address for questions about these terms. None is decided yet, and inventing one here would be worse than leaving the section empty.
